Default so i want to start a charity...

I'm 17 at the moment, I want to start a charity. There is a lot of young bodyuilders that have a big potential of becoming someone special in this sport. But it is hard for young bodybuilders as diets and supplementation as well as gym memberships cost a lot of money! Do you people think that it would be possible to make a charity like this? We would probably find sponsors etc as well as sell t-shirts and vests to raise money. As mentioned before we would work with young bodybuilders and help them out by buying things like gym memberships, supplements, clothes as well as giving vouchers for food (musclefood.co.uk).

Is it worth it though?
Can I start a charity at my age?

Hi mikolaj

You probably could set up a charity for this ambition, and do loads of community fundraising so that some young people could do this bodybuilding, however have you also considered the benefits of the social enterprise and/or community owned surplus making business models?

Bodybuilding certainly requires the competitive spirit as I understand it, and for all the products and services you have listed, it would be possible to compete for some of that business and therefore funds, especially when donations are probably stretched to the limit in this country at the moment.

Your text mentions diet supplements, gym fees, tshirts and vests, all of which could make money, knowing that the profits (or surplus for a community business) would also be making extra jobs, as well as your stated services for young people.

Why not try mentioning this to people in your sport and see if anyone else is interested in this area of sports development. Your original charity idea would also benefit from having other people on board as well, so why not throw some ideas around in a group, and see what comes up. You never know, you might even become a founding member of a new national social enterprise chain, and set up an example funding model for the likes of Team GB and/or other non-professional sports teams.

Kind regards
PE

You have to obtain a licence from the Charities Commission. See their website.
I doubt if you will be granted a licence for the cause you mention.

No you cannot. You have to apply for permission from the Charity Commission and be licensed, and you are too young.
Give them a google.
