Only if it is income, and we don't have a tax treaty with your country of permanent residence. If it was a gift from your family, then it doesn't count as income.

If it's a simple transfer of funds from one country to another, this is not taxable. However, the transfer must be reported to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). They will also not charge a tarriff, but they want to be informed of any large transfers of cash.
