President Obama is a slow-but-steady sorta' guy, able to multi-task better than any president we have ever had. His would-be critics have not yet come to realize what most of us who proudly voted for him in 2012 is that Barack Obama does NOT give up---he has the patience of Job and tirelessly works to achieve his many campaign promises and his personal goals.

There has been absolutely no legitimate reason for the Congressional Republicans to block the closing of Guantanamo, yet block the closing they did, first by objecting vehemently to any of the remaining detainees being brought to trial in civilian courts (those whom the lawless Cheney/Bush administration had not subjected to evidence-negating torture, of course). Our courts are capable of handling the prosecution of any U.S. enemy, but the mean-spirited anti-Obama-everything rightwing Republicans dug in their wayward heels and refused to cooperate. Next, the unpatriotic (during war-time) Republicans sought to sabotage having the remaining prisoners housed at two Maximum Security prisons whose wardens had offered their empty facilities for use (Illinois and Wyoming---the latter Cheney's home state, ironically), but the Republicans pitched the propaganda-LIE that U.S. maximum-security prisons would not be "adequate" for holding the detainees and then refused to fund the transfers.

In addition to his many other duties as our twice-elected President, Barack Obama studies every problem from all angles looking for the best resolutions. My guess would be that many of the remaining POW detainees at Gitmo will be returned to their home countries once the Afghan war comes to an end later this year. That would leave only the few who actually did commit crimes against the U.S., and hopefully by midterm election year votes in November, the SANE DEMOCRATS will once again be voted into majority power for both House and Senate---and the job will be done. The last Congress controlled in both House and Senate by Democrats was the 111th, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi at the helm in the House---and C-SPAN News (plus LA Times) rated that 111th Democrats-led Congress as the "MOST PRODUCTIVE CONGRESS in more than 60 years!" Compare that high-praise rating to the next two Republican-led (or Republican filibustered) Congresses: "The LEAST PRODUCTIVE CONGRESS in U.S. history" (C-SPAN News and LA Times).

If Democratic voters can OVERRIDE the VOTER SUPPRESSION in southern states with Republican governors, we can TURN OUT IN FULL FORCE in November and ELECT DEMOCRATS to help our nation-saving, economy-growing, jobs-creating, auto-industry-saving, deficit-slashing, revenues-generating, Dow-Jones-elevating (record highs), Great-Recession-reversing, GOP-viciousness-transcending, American-POW-rescuing, terrorist-attacks-preventing, insurers-reforming, banks-regulating, manufacturing-base-rebuilding, highly intelligent, deeply patriotic, and incredibly patient President Obama keep this GOP-damaged nation on a good path---a path that President Hillary Clinton will be only to happy to sustain and enhance once she is sworn in on January 20, 2017.

Obama can not close Gitmo until Congress gives him the authority to do so. He has requested that authority multiple times, and has been denied every time.

As the war in Afghanistan winds down, and officially ends, International law requires the release of prisoners of war. We are screwed on any form of prosecution on any of them, because of torcher. Something the Bush administration didn't think about at the time. Water boarding seemed to be their answer to answers.
