a. assets will increase and stockholders' equity will decrease.

b. assets will decrease and stockholders' equity will increase.

c. no accounts will be affected until the dividend is paid.

d. liabilities will increase and stockholders' equity will decrease.

c. no accounts will be affected until the dividend is paid. No funds have changed accounts yet. The company has just announced that it will pay dividends, it has not yet actually paid them.

I wonder which is more rough on Justin, his job search or the 30 he probably pulled on FAR, lol.

A dividends payable credit is recorded on the declaration date with a debit to retained earnings, so as other posters have said "D" is the correct answer.

Now start doing your own homework, lest you end up like Justin.
