Default use chip/pin to pay over the counter into someone else's account

Iím looking at buying a second hand car and need some guidance on paying for it safely.

I need to travel a fair distance to collect it (theyíre rare and donít often come up for sale) so I donít want to make more than one trip.

Can I go into the sellerís bank with him and make a chip and pin payment directly into his bank account? I really donít want to be carrying £12k in cash with me on a 4 hour train journey and would prefer the mutual safety of only paying for the car once Iíve seen and driven it.

As Iím wanting to then drive home in the car I need the payment to be relatively instantaneous.

If the chip/pin idea is a non-starter, what other methods work well?

Do you use moble banking? Stick the money into an account where you can transfer it immediately.

Or advise your local branch what you are intending - then go to either his or your branch where the car is and transfer the funds.

Don't forget you need to insure the car too!
